Halstock Cabinet Makers Ltd & Paul Spencer Design & Carving Ltd awarded a Guildmark from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.

Created to merge contemporary stone carving and traditional cabinet making, using classic materials in new ways. The cabinet has been designed as a fun extravagant showpiece of style and opulence, layered with surprises to delight and entertain.
The concept of backlighting the alabaster and the internal ‘bleached burr madrona’ was intended to maximise the impact of the piece and showcase the materials unique aesthetic qualities.

A brief description of the materials…

Exterior Side panels – Matt finished Welsh Slate carved with horizontal and vertical grooves to create a unique textured surface. This was chosen to give interest and depth to the large expanse of side
panel. Backlit door tiles – Blue Alabaster, this was chosen because of its translucent properties which allowed us to maximise the impact of its amazing inherent veining and marbling.Exterior & Interior Mirror – Antiqued Silver Mirror, chosen to add interest and texture to the large areas of mirrored surface.

Internal Backlit tiered shelving – TABU 46.050 Burr Madrona Veneer. We wanted the interior of the cabinet and the tiered shelves to look incredible whether they had wonderful spirit bottles on
them or not, how better to do this than to backlit the veneer by veneering over clear Perspex, thus emphasising the swirling grain pattern to great effect.

Halstock are incredibly proud of their second Guild Mark awarded and look forward to the possibility of applying for more in the future.

Following its time at The Gallery, 99 Mount St, Mayfair, W1 between 1st June – 6th July there has been much interest and appreciation for this piece.

Created to merge contemporary stone carving and traditional cabinet making, using classic materials in new ways. The cabinet has
The concept of backlighting the alabaster and the internal ‘bleachedburr madrona’ was intended to maximise the impact of the piece and showcase the materials unique aesthetic qualities.

Created by seamlessly integrating both design and engineering, sketches, CAD and above all teamwork. Notice that the interior working area where cocktails will be mixed is set at pub bar height whilst not compromising the square alabaster door tiles on the exterior, in this cabinet form does indeed follow function.

Following a hair raising month of moustache mania the team at Halstock has raised £2429.00 for the Movember Charity to raise money for Mens health Charities.

The team Captain Ben Symonds confirmed that now we have taken part this year we plan to be involved every year and beat the astonishing number that we raised this year.

Around 112,000 people take part from the UK in Movember and the team at Halstock have been pleased to be part of that number. The Movember Charity is hoping to beat its 11.7million raised during 2010 from the UK alone.

The funds raised in the UK support the number one and two male specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research. Together, these channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programmes in line with their strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

For more information on the programmes we are funding please visit the following:

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face and then for the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

On 21st September 2011 the Rifles regiment appealed to London’s Mayfair for support for its Care for Casualties appeal.

“We are available around the clock” confirmed Rebecca Maciejewska in her extremely well received appeal to over 250 guests at the Rifles club, Mayfair. Care for Casualties is a ring-fenced appeal set up within The Rifles Regimental Trust (Charity Number 1119061) for the benefit of Rifles casualties, the wounded, their families and the bereaved from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The Rifles have lost 59 Riflemen, Killed in Action, in these campaigns, since the formation of the regiment in February 2007.

29 Riflemen have lost limbs during the same period, 3 have lost 3 limbs and 11 have lost 2 each. 2 Riflemen are in neurological units and are likely to stay there for the rest of their lives, and 2 have been fully blinded.

Guest speakers during the evening included the war artist Arabella Dorman who has painted The Rifles in action and who gave a compelling account of her time and experiences with the Rifles.

Ed Parker spoke about the challenges of walking to the North Pole and of his support for all soldiers who have experienced such challenges; Rifleman Matt Fisher who lost a leg in Afghanistan told of his experience and offered an honest, sincere account of the choices and challenges facing all wounded Riflemen as well as how Care for Casualties have supported them in their very real and challenging situations.

The evening offered drinks and canapés sponsored by Halstock, RAB capital and African Petroleum and hosts from the three businesses. Richard Miller, MD of Halstock Ltd spoke of his support for the Charity and his passion and respect for all members of the Regiment past and present.

An auction was held as well as a £20.00 raffle collected for by the Rifles cadets who represented the Rifles Family values perfectly ; lots were offered from Luxury Hotel accommodation, VIP Tickets to London’s Boat Show to an evening at the Royal Albert Hall all having been donated by local businesses and generous guests.

The evening raised in excess of £30,000.00 for Care for Casualties and certainly offered an insight into the great support this charity offers. This was reflected in a short film allowing guests to understand some of the things that have been done to change ives for the better – demonstrating the actions and support offered and how they play a part in the lives of all the Rifles soldiers and their families when need arises.
